About

Dr. Ruth Z. Yuste-Alonso is an educator, scholar, and translator with over 10 years of teaching experience. She is currently a visiting assistant professor and Murphy Fellow in Spanish at Hendrix College where she teaches courses on Spanish language, literatures, and (visual) cultures in the Spanish Program and serves as mentor to a selected cohort of students pursuing advanced studies in literature and language through the Murphy Scholars Program. Her research focuses on visual culture within the Hispanic world with an emphasis on contemporary Spanish women’s cinema from an intersectional lens. Her dissertation problematized the concept of the female gaze through the lens of film genres in the works of contemporary Spanish women filmmakers in a critical effort to reframe our understanding and discussion of gendered ways of seeing and storytelling within women’s cultural production. Her articles, chapters, and reviews have appeared in Escenarios de crisis: dramaturgas españolas en el nuevo milenioGuiniguadaCatalan Journal of Communication & Cultural Studies, among other contributions. She collaborates with research group Lingüística Aplicada a la Docencia de la Lengua Extranjera, su Literatura y su Traducción (LinDoLenEx).
