Dr Richard Kirwan is an Irish Research Council Laureate and Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Limerick. He specialises in early modern European history with a focus on the German-speaking lands of the Holy Roman Empire. His research interests include the social and cultural history of early modern universities and the world of learning, early modern print culture, and the culture and politics of religious conversion.

Dr Kirwan is Principal Investigator of ‘Malcontents: Order and Disorder in the Early Modern World of Learning,’ a four-year project funded under the Irish Research Council Consolidate Laureate Awards programme (2022-2026).
