Book
Antidiets of the Avant-garde: From Futurist Cooking to Eat Art (Minneapolis and London: University of Minnesota Press, 2010), 368 pages. The book examines literary and artistic avant-garde movements through the “culinary field” as the latter intersects with visual culture and broader debates about consumption. Reviews in major international journals noted that the book provides, through its examination of food consumption and aesthetics, a unique vantage on the relationships between various avant-garde movements over time. Reviews laud the book’s interdisciplinarity, particularly its use of comparative critical theory, aesthetics and art history. The University of Minnesota Press is a leading press, distinguished in the areas of cultural theory, criticism and interdisciplinary studies, for which most recently was awarded a prestigious award by the Mellon Foundation (
Chronicle of Higher Education, October 31, 2007).
