    We are looking to make a research faculty appointment at the rank of

    Assistant Professor of International Relations

    Full-time (40 hours/week), preferred starting date: Spring 2020

    The Assistant Professor of International Relations will be responsible for teaching seminar-style courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, maintaining an active research agenda and scholarly profile, as well as participating in departmental and university service activities. While all areas of IR focus are welcome, the department particularly welcomes candidates who have research agendas in conflict and security studies and/or international organizations and can demonstrate strong skills in applied quantitative research methods.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including Research Methods with a focus on quantitative methods and respective tools including R

    • Develop a steady scholarly output (e.g. publications in peer reviewed academic journals, book chapters, and books)

    • Attend and present papers at competitive IR related conferences

    • Participate in research grant applications

    • Advise students on academic matters and degree planning and supervise thesis

    Your profile:

    • PhD in International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies or related fields (candidates expecting to receive their PhD prior January 1 2020 may be considered)

    • Scholarly track record appropriate for the rank of Assistant Professor

    • Strong skills in applied quantitative research methods

    Demonstrated research profile in conflict and security studies and/or international organizations

    • Rank-appropriate experience in grant writing

    • Rank-appropriate evidence of teaching excellence in English

    Candidates are initially employed on a three-year all-in contract, in which annual performance agreements orientate the assistant professor’s teaching, research and service goals. After three years and a successful review, the employment relationship is then based on an unlimited contract.
