University of Richmond invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor beginning August 1, 2018, with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will contribute to a small but energetic Russian Studies major program within a multidisciplinary Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. The position entails teaching 5 courses per year, including two Russian language courses at the elementary or intermediate level, and one seminar for more advanced language students. The other two courses will cover the wider field of Russian literature and culture, including 19th or 20-21st century literature, film, popular culture, and/or interdisciplinary topics that engage Russian Studies with other fields (e.g. art, environmental studies, comparative literature, entrepreneurship and design, race and racism, social justice, diaspora and global migrations). The successful candidate brings native or near-native Russian language skills and innovative curricular and research interests to an undergraduate, liberal arts environment. Our program offers close faculty-student interaction, high support for innovative pedagogies, vibrant intellectual community across disciplines, and a commitment to expanding access in the field. Thus, the successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity.
