    The Department of History at the University of North Texas seeks applications for a full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the assistant, associate or full professor level with areas of specialty in 20th century U.S. or European military history.     Responsibilities include conducting a vigorous research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising graduate training, and serving on departmental committees. The successful candidate will direct graduate research, be an integral part of UNT’s Military History Center, and exhibit a commitment to service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in History or a closely related field, a research concentration in 20th century U.S. or European military history, be able to supervise graduate students doing masters and doctoral work on a wide variety of topics in 20th-21st century military history and to offer intensive graduate and undergraduate courses on the Second World War and US and/or European military conflicts in Asia, the Pacific, North Africa, or the Middle East. Candidates for a tenured position are expected to have significant scholarly achievements as demonstrated by an outstanding record of publication of articles and books, an established reputation in the field, documented evidence of teaching excellence, broad command of the literature in both traditional operational and the new military history/war and society and ability to address multiple dimensions of war and military power including operational military history in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Candidates at the assistant professor level are expected to demonstrate strong potential in the above areas as seen in their academic training, conference papers, publications and work in progress.

    UNT is a Class I‐Doctorate Granting institution located in Denton, Texas about 40 miles north of both Dallas and Fort Worth. UNT Denton is the flagship research campus of the UNT‐System, has over 37,000 students and over 6,500 graduate students, and is one of the top choices in the nation for transfer students. The Department of History has 31 full-time faculty, more than 500 undergraduate majors, and more than 100 graduate students. It awards the Ph.D. in United States, European and Military History.
