Librarian for Russian & Slavic Studies

The New York University Libraries seeks a subject specialist in Russian and Slavic Studies, serving the Department of Russian and Slavic Studies.

Librarians play a key role in the educational mission of NYU by establishing strong relationships with faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates, and connecting them to the services, content, and tools that meet their research, teaching, and learning needs.
This position serves as the primary library liaison to Russian and Slavic Studies, with special emphasis on building and curating collections in all formats; continuing a program of extensive instructional, consultation, and research support services; and developing responsive and innovative information and research services. Additionally, the successful candidate will coordinate bibliographic control for resources in Slavic languages, including original and copy cataloging following national standards. Subject librarians actively learn and apply new skills and knowledge in emerging areas of digital humanities and data-intensive scholarship; and engage with faculty, publishers, and vendors to bring about changes in the system of scholarly publishing and communications.
The Russian and Slavic Studies Librarian is a tenure-track position based in the Humanities and Social Sciences Center in the Collections and Research Services department, NYU Libraries. The incumbent is deeply engaged and contributes skills and expertise to the highly collaborative work of the department and the NYU Libraries. The incumbent works creatively with colleagues to implement and enhance programs and services, to deliver physical and virtual research and reference services, and to take a leadership role on projects and initiatives.

Qualifications:
● Minimum one graduate degree (master’s level or higher) for consideration. A second graduate degree will be required for tenure review. One of the two graduate degrees must be an ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent
● Reading, writing, and speaking facility in Russian; reading knowledge of Polish and/or Czech is also desirable
● Knowledge in related fields in the humanities or social sciences is desirable
● Minimum three years of relevant library experience
● Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff in a team environment
● Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills
● Previous library experience in instruction, collection development, reference and/or cataloging is desirable
● Candidates should exhibit a strong public service orientation, a high degree of facility with technologies and systems germane to the 21st century library, and be well versed in the issues surrounding scholarly communications
