    Russian Language Term Faculty 2019-20

    Position Summary:

    The Russian Language and Area Studies Department at St. Olaf College invites applications for a one-year position in Russian language, beginning August 15, 2019 (PhD preferred, ABD considered). We seek a gifted and enthusiastic language instructor with a commitment to mentoring undergraduate students and enthusiasm for supporting the growth of Russian Studies.

    Position Description:

    The Department is particularly interested in applicants who will continue to contribute to our diverse community and broaden our curricular offerings. We request that in the letter of application, candidates address their potential to contribute to the St. Olaf community that maintains a diversity of people and perspectives as one of its core values. We strongly encourage applications from members of underrepresented minority groups.

    The teaching load is six courses with three courses in the fall semester and three courses in the spring semester. We are on a 4-1-4 calendar and there will be no teaching during the January term. Candidates will teach language courses from beginning through our fourth-year language capstone course. Native or near-native proficiency in Russian is absolutely required. In addition, candidates will also offer two English language literature courses.

    Duties involve frequent contact with students outside the classroom in recruiting and mentoring. Faculty members are expected to participate fully in department and college activities being available to students, and assisting in college and department functions, such as the Russian House and various Russian activities.
