    The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS) seeks a visionary leader to fill the position of Dean. The College of AHSS is the fourth largest of the eight colleges at NDSU and comprises the following units, departments and divisions: Architecture and Landscape Architecture; Communication; Criminal Justice and Political Science; Emergency Management; English; History, Philosophy and Religious Studies; Modern Languages: Challey School of Music and Theatre Arts; Sociology and Anthropology; Visual Arts; Women and Gender Studies; and the Center for Social Research. Master’s and doctoral degrees are offered in most departments. The College has approximately 1620 undergraduate students, 240 graduate students, 146 faculty and lecturers and is home to the NDSU Press.

    The Dean reports to the Provost and is responsible for: administering the College and its programs; leading the faculty in planning, developing, and implementing instructional, research, service and outreach activities (consistent with the NDSU’s land-grant mission); enhancing relationships with internal and external constituencies; supporting the efforts of the NDSU Foundation and Alumni Association; fostering participatory management and continuous improvement of programs; implementing academic policies; administering the College budget; evaluating faculty for tenure and promotion; supporting departmental initiatives for program growth and improvement; serving as a member of the Provost’s council of deans; leading and mentoring the College executive council; and fostering a climate characterized by equity, diversity and inclusivity. The Dean of AHSS also serves as the Director of the NDSU Press.

    Minimum Requirements:

    1. A terminal degree from an accredited institution in one of the disciplines in the college or related field.
    2. Academic achievement sufficient for tenure at the full professor level in one of the college’s departments.
    3. Effective written and oral communication skills.
    4. Administrative experience in a role such as a Dean, Associate Dean, Department Chair or Program Director.
    5. Experience overseeing and/or managing a budget.
    6. Demonstrated advocacy for the general and professional roles of the arts, humanities, and social sciences with both internal and external constituencies.
    7. A record of successful administrative experience that fosters a collaborative, inclusive work environment that values diversity and integrity.
    8. Ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diversity of colleagues and students.

    Preferred Requirements:

    1. An understanding of national trends in undergraduate and graduate education.
    2. Documented success in fundraising.
    3. Demonstrated experience in recruitment and retention of a diverse group of faculty, staff and students.
