    Kiel University seeks to attract more qualified women for professorships.

    The Institute for Slavic Studies of Christian-Abrechts-Universität zu Kiel (Kiel University), Germany, invites applications for a Professorship in Slavic Linguistics with a focus on Historical Linguistics (W2, 100 %, permanent)

    The candidate should represent the full scope of Slavic linguistics in research and teaching. Knowledge of Russian and Polish in present-day and in historical perspective is required. At least one other East or West Slavic language is desirable in research and teaching.

    Applicants should be willing to work together with other researchers in an interdisciplinary environment. The tasks of the future job holder include participation in the Kiel Center for Eastern European Studies (ZOS) as well as the further development of existing international double degree programs at the Master level (EuPoD and RDT – see and In addition, the future post holder with his / her historical focus will be integrated into the research focal area “Social and Environmental Change (SECC)” of the University, the Johanna Mestorf Academy and the Cluster of Excellence “Roots: Social, Environmental and Cultural Connectivity in Past Societies“, especially in the sub-cluster “Roots of Conflict: Competition and Conciliation“ (see

    In this research environment the focus should be on the connection between material and immaterial (linguistic) culture, both from a theoretical point of view and in concrete research projects. In this way the future job holder will strengthen the research field dealing with the immaterial elements of past societies. At the same time, this will ensure the integration with other subjects of the faculty and the Cluster of Excellence (especially with archeology).

    A master’s degree or comparable degree as well as a PhD in Slavic Linguistics (at least magna cum laude or comparable) is required. Additional scientific achievements in Slavic Linguistics must be demonstrated by a junior professorship, a habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements. Outstanding scientific publications and teaching experience are essential. The successful acquisition of third-party funds is expected. The mastery of the English language (in research and possibly teaching) as well as the German language (for teaching, research and committee work) is indispensable.
