    Center for European Studies, U of Florida hiring Visiting Lecturer in Polish Studies

    Description

    The Center for European Studies (CES) at the University of Florida is conducting a search for a full-time, time-limited, non-tenure track Visiting Lecturer position in Polish Studies to begin August 16, 2018. The position is for the 2018-2019 academic year with the possibility of renewal for a second year if funding for the position is available and if performance was satisfactory.

    Applicants will be expected to teach Polish language and area studies courses. The teaching assignment will be 3 courses in Fall and 3 courses in Spring semesters – in general including two language and one area studies course per semester, including ideally the development of online language courses for 1<sup>st</sup> year Polish. Teaching responsibilities will also include working with graduate FLAS students on language and area studies related to their graduate studies and dissertations (independent studies) as needed.

    In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for the Polish Studies Program, Program building tasks including, but not limited to: community outreach activities, current CES grant activities, enhancing collaboration with the on-campus Polish student organization, and sustaining and/or developing exchange or study abroad programs. The field of specialization is open and can include any aspect of contemporary Polish language, literature, culture, history, politics, or society, however in an attempt to broaden student interest, preference will be given to those from non-traditional disciplines, such as anthropology, geography and/or life sciences. Candidates with a demonstrated interest in study abroad programs and a background in online education and pedagogy are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in the scholarly and programming activities of the CES.

     

    Salary

    The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.

     

    Minimum Requirements

    A Masters degree is required. Native or near-native fluency in Polish and English, as well as previous experience teaching Polish language are required.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    Candidates with Ph.D. are preferred, but qualified candidates who are A.B.D. may be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in the scholarly and programming activities of the CES.

    The final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts to the hiring department upon hire.  A transcript will not be considered “official” is a designation of “Issued to Student” is visible.  Degrees earned from an educational institution outside of the United States are required to be evaluation by a professional credentialing service provider by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), which can be found at http://www.naces.org/.
