    Clarkson University is a nationally recognized research university with signature areas of academic excellence and research directed toward the world’s pressing issues.     The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Clarkson University invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track position in modern European, U.S. or Canadian history at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will teach courses on the wars of the 20th century, as well as War and Society, the foundation course for the Department’s War Studies Concentration. The candidate’s application should demonstrate that s/he has the expertise to offer these courses as well as a lively interest in participating in the War Studies program. The successful candidate will also bring a second field of expertise that complements the department’s focus areas in the environment, health, or race, class and gender. The candidate will be expected to draw upon primary and secondary fields to develop modern history electives that expand the Department’s major in History.

    The ordinary teaching load is three courses (usually two preparations) per semester, including each Fall two sections of The Clarkson Seminar, a first-year, writing-intensive course, focused on a theme of the applicant’s choosing. Applicants at the Associate level will have qualifications consistent with Clarkson’s standards for the rank of Associate Professor- including serious scholarly achievement and substantial accomplishment as a teacher- and an interest in and/or experience with administrative work.

    Minimum qualifications include PhD in history, teaching experience in War Studies and evidence of scholarly productivity. PhD required by August 1, 2018. The successful candidate will have evidence of excellence in scholarship and teaching. Review of applications will begin January 15, 2018 and continues until the position is filled.
