European Institute Professor in Contemporary Turkish Studies 

Salaries will be on the appropriate salary scale and will be commensurate with experience, taking into account pay equity within the Department.   The salary scale starts at £89,502 per annum (pay award pending) and can be found on the LSE website

 The European Institute is a world-leading centre for the study of Europe. It is multidisciplinary and teaches at a post-graduate level. The faculty are active researchers, and teaching is research-led. The European Institute came top in its Unit of Assessment in the last two REF exercises. The disciplinary specialisation of the Chair in Contemporary Turkish Studies will be in the social sciences, with a preference for political economy, economics, political science or international relations. The postholder will be expected to advance the public understanding of contemporary Turkey and its relationship to the rest of Europe. The successful candidate will join a department with four main research areas: Political Economy, Politics and Policy, Culture and Society, and Migration. The successful candidate will provide research leadership in Contemporary Turkish Studies, and intellectual leadership in the European Institute, making a major contribution to relevant departmental MSc programmes and research units, including their strategic development. The postholder will conduct and publish outstanding research that creates opportunities for policy impact, and engage in high quality teaching of contemporary significance for Turkey and Europe for future scholars in this area. Candidates should have a PhD in a field of the social sciences. The appointee will be expected to have a good knowledge of the Turkish language. In addition, they should have an outstanding international reputation in their field, with expertise and research interests encompassing Turkey and Europe. Candidates should also have a proven track record of publishing outstanding research in top journals and/or with leading book publishers in their field of social science; and a clear, well developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research that will result in further world-leading publications.
