    The Foundation for Civic Space and Public Policy based in Warsaw, Poland is pleased to announce a two-year (24 month) Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. Two fellowships are available for scholars specializing in Polish history. Scholars must have earned (successfully defended) their Ph.D. degrees in the United States. Fellows will be affiliated with a Polish university best suited to their scholarly interests and will teach a total of two single-semester classes during their two-year stay.

    The purpose of the fellowship is to enable young scholars to prepare their Ph.D. theses for publication or to start new research programs on the history of Poland in broad European and global aspects.

    Scholarship Description

    Application Deadline: May 3, 2019

    Start of Fellowship: October 2019

    Duration of Fellowship: Two years

    Study Subject: Polish history.

    Scholarship Award: Each selected fellow will receive an annual scholarship of $30,000. The organizer will also cover health insurance (Allianz) and provide an allowance for transatlantic travel ($3,000). An additional family allowance ($10,000) is possible provided the family accompanies the fellow for at least 80% of the scholarship period.

    Nationality: Applicants should have a valid U.S. passport or permanent residence in the United States. The doctorate itself must have been earned at a university in the United States.

    Number of Scholarships: Two.

    Requirements: 1) Each fellow must teach a total of two university courses during their stay. 2) Fellows must participate in relevant Polish academic conferences. 3) Each fellow must organize, with Polish and American colleagues, one panel at The Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) or The American Historical Association (AHA) annual conference.

    How to Apply: All materials must be in English. All materials must be in submitted as PDF documents. Applicants must submit the following documents to: polish.postdoc@civicspace.org.pl with the subject line to read “Postdoc_surname_given name”:

    1. Ph.D. thesis (if the thesis was published – the book – if you have difficulties obtaining an electronic copy of the book, please contact us);
    2. Curriculum Vitae with a list of academic accomplishments;
    3. Three academic reference letters from scholars familiar with candidate’s work. One of the reference letters should be written by the candidate’s Ph.D. advisor. The applicant must request that letters be sent by referees (authors) directly to the Foundation: polish.postdoc@civicspace.org.pl );
    4. Current research topic(s) and archival research program.
