Call for applications for PhD studentships in Russian History and/or culture at Durham University, United Kingdom

The School of Modern Languages and Cultures, Russian Studies and Department of History invite applications for PhD studentships through the Arts and Humanities Research Council funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership.
The Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership offers high-quality supervision and exceptional resources, as well as the expertise of a broad portfolio of Strategic Partners for the training and development of outstanding Arts and Humanities postgraduate researchers.
The awards cover tuition fees and provide a maintenance grant at the Research Council UK national rate for UK applicants. They cover tuition fees only for EU students, but if institutional funds permit, they also expect to make maintenance awards to EU students. This program welcomes applications from outstanding candidates who can demonstrate evidence of academic excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as evidence of sufficient research skills to undertake the project. They are particularly interested in receiving interdisciplinary proposals from those working in Russian, Soviet and post-Soviet history, cinema and visual culture, literary and cultural studies from the eighteenth century to the present. Russian language training may be provided where appropriate.
For Standard Route studentships, that is, for projects that would be supervised by Durham University staff, applicants should consult Dr Dušan Radunović at dusan.radunovic@durham.ac.uk to discuss their research proposal and potential supervisors for their project.
For Partnership Awards, which would involve joint supervision of Durham University staff and staff from one of Northern Bridge’s partner organizations (Queen’s University Belfast or Newcastle University), initial contact should be made with the Northern Bridge administrator at any of the three Northern Bridge universities. Prospective applicants for Partnership Awards should submit a preliminary Expression of Interest at their earliest opportunity, following the instructions on the Northern Bridge website.
