Motesiczky Postdoctoral Fellow
Fixed term post from 1 October 2017-30 June2018
Salary: £30,469 – £34,844 pa (including London Weighting) depending on relevant knowledge and skills
The Courtauld Institute of Art’s Research Forum, with the support of the Marie-Louise von Motesiczky Charitable Trust, is offering a fellowship to a scholar with a PhD in Central or Eastern European Cultural History or Humanities to work alongside Beata Hock and Klara Kemp-Welch in co-editing a major volume of scholarship on Central European Modernism of the period 1918-1956 to be published as part of the Courtauld Books Online open access series. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to devote part of their time to pursuing their own research writing an innovative chapter for inclusion in the volume and to gain experience in publishing and working in a research environment. The role will entail the following key activities: translation into English of key texts hitherto available only in other languages; undertaking communication with other authors and translators about their submissions; editing; copy editing; liaising with the Institute’s Picture Researcher to arrange permissions; collaboration on design and typesetting. This is a full-time post divided between research, editing and administration. Should a candidate wish to contribute expertise on an occasional basis to the BA3 course ‘Reassembling Modernism’, this could be negotiated, however, teaching is not a requirement. Where teaching commitments are in place either at The Courtauld or elsewhere, these will have to be renegotiated.
Applicants must have excellent English-language written and verbal communication skills, as well as an excellent working knowledge of either Czech, German or Slovak.
The applicant’s doctorate should be in a relevant field of study and should have been completed, including viva (passed or passed with minor corrections), by the application deadline of June 16th 2017.
