The Institute for Human Sciences (Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen, IWM), an intellectually and politically independent institute for advanced study in the humanities and social sciences in Vienna, has recently published four new calls for application.

    Deadline: January 31, 2021

The majority of IWM fellowships are awarded in open competition, involving calls for application and evaluation by expert juries. Research proposals are currently invited for the following programs:

    Ukraine in European Dialogue Fellowships

This junior fellowship program aims to support the research of Ukrainian scholars who are completing or have recently completed doctoral studies in a Ukrainian institution of higher education. The selected finalists will be invited to spend six months between July 2021 and June 2022 at the IWM to pursue their research projects.

    Jan Patočka Fellowships

This fellowship program is dedicated to commemorate Jan Patočka’s name and work. It aims to foster groundbreaking research in the humanities and social sciences. The fellowships enable Czech researchers to work on a project of their own choice. Jan Patočka Fellows will be invited to spend six months between July 2021 and June 2022 at the IWM to pursue their research projects.

    Milena Jesenská Fellowships for Journalists

This program offers experienced journalists time off from their professional duties in order to pursue in-depth research on a topic of their choice, which addresses issues of European relevance. During the next fellowship term (July 2021 – June 2022) four fellows are invited to spend three months each at the IWM in Vienna, Austria.

    Paul Celan Fellowships for Translators

The Paul Celan Fellowships support East-West, West-East and East-East translations of canonical texts as well as contemporary key works in the humanities, social sciences and cultural studies.
