IWM: Fellowship Opportunites call for applications

    Recently, the Institute for Human Sciences (Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen, IWM) in Vienna has published several new calls for application:

    Paul Celan Fellowships 2019/2020 for translators

    Deadline for application: February 28, 2019

    The program supports translations of canonical texts, contemporary key works in the humanities, social sciences and cultural studies from Eastern to Western European languages or vice versa, or between two Eastern European languages. Special emphasis is put on translations of relevant works written by East European authors and/or female scholars. No applications for works of fiction and poetry are being accepted.
    Fellows will spend 3 – 6 months between July 2019 and June 2020 at the IWM in Vienna and receive a monthly stipend of EUR 2,500 to cover all expenses related to the stay in Vienna. The IWM provides fellows with an office incl. access to internet, in-house research and administrative facilities as well as other services free of charge.

    Ukraine in European Dialogue Junior Fellowships 2019/2020

    Deadline for application: January 11, 2019

    This fellowship program aims to support the research of Ukrainian scholars who are completing or have recently completed doctoral studies in a Ukrainian institution of higher education.
    It offers access to the resources of the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna to younger researchers who have demonstrated exceptional talent to allow them to work on a research project of their own choice. The fellowships are open to all academic disciplines in the social sciences (including history).
    Fellows will be invited to spend a six-month term between July 2019 and June 2020 at the IWM and receive a stipend of EUR 1,800 per month to cover all expenses related to the stay. In addition, the IWM provides office space, access to e-mail and internet, research and administrative facilities as well as other services free of charge.

    Milena Jesenská Fellowships 2019/2020 for journalists

    Deadline for application: January 11, 2019

    The program offers European cultural journalists time off from their professional duties in order to pursue in-depth research on a topic of their choice. Applicants must have worked in print, broadcast or online journalism for several years and must have an outstanding professional record. Applications by entry-level journalists or students will be rejected.

    Fellows will spend 3 months between July 2019 and June 2020 at the IWM in Vienna. They will receive a stipend of EUR 2,500 per month and are provided with an office, access to e-mail and internet, administrative and research facilities as well as other services free of charge. Travel grants of up to EUR 1,900 can be paid for research trips to neighboring countries.

    Jan Patočka Junior Fellowships 2019/2020

    Application deadline: January 11, 2019

    The Jan Patočka Fellowship Program aims to foster research inspired by Jan Patočka’s work and legacy and committed to all fields of his intellectual endeavors. It enables Czech researchers to work on a project of their own choice. The fellowship is open to all academic disciplines in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

    Fellows will be invited to spend a six-month term between July 2019 and June 2020 at the IWM and receive a stipend of EUR 2,000 per month to cover all expenses related to the stay. In addition, the IWM provides office space, access to e-mail and internet, research and administrative facilities as well as other services free of charge.
