    Research Assistant
    The position is available as of October 1, 2020. The position is funded according to § 2 WissZeitVG and § 65 HHG with the opportunity of own scientific training. The salary of the position is determined by payment group E 13 according to the collective labour agreement of the State of Hesse (TV-H).
    Scientific employees are – unless the allowed maximum duration of a temporary employment is exceeded – generally employed for an initial duration of 3 years with a possibility of extension for an additional 2 years, if the above-mentioned requirements are fulfilled.
    Justus Liebig University is home of the Giessen Center for Eastern European Studies (GiZo) and of the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC). We are dedicated to all kind of linguistic, literary, cultural, sociological, and interdisciplinary studies on Eastern Europe. The Institute for Slavic Studies consists of four professorships. Within this institutional framework the professorship for Slavic Linguistics and Cultural Studies (Prof. Dr. Thomas Daiber) is looking to fill the open position of a Research Assistant with a competitive candidate who is evidently making first steps on the academic career path.
    Duties:
    • Own scientific training (e.g. doctorate degree); obtaining a university teaching qualification; scientific services in research and teaching according to § 65 HHG
    • Taking on teaching duties according to the teaching obligation ordinance of the state of Hesse including exam acceptance and study advice in all courses
    • Scientific participation in current research projects of the professorship
    • Participation in events at the institute
    • Additionally, you will contribute to administrative services in the Institute of Slavic Studies.
    Requirements:
    • An excellent academic degree in Slavistics with a focus on linguistics and orientation in synchronous and historical Slavic linguistics
    • Interest in linguistic and / or philological research, teamwork, solution orientation
    • Proficiency in German (for teaching purposes, at least) and Russian (as this Slavic language is obligatory on all levels of study at the Institute of Slavic Studies), philological competency in Slavic linguistics, preferably with a focus on historical linguistics
