Deadlines have been extended for several American ResearchInstitute of the South Caucasus (ARISC) funding opportunities for 2020-21!

ARISC JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP – NEW
ARISC announces the availability of fellowships in support of early-careerpostdoctoral scholars to undertake research activities in the South Caucasus(Armenia, Azerbaijan, and/or Georgia).
Award Amount: The ARISC Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) will fund threeearly-career scholars at $5000 each for 1-3 months of research in the SouthCaucasus to help cover transportation, lodging, meals and incidental expenses.Scholars are expected to be in the South Caucasus for the duration of theproject.
Eligibility: This opportunity is open to US citizens and US permanent residentswho are scholars at the early postdoctoral stage – within ten years of beingawarded a doctoral degree at the time of application. If the applicant is in atenure-track position, they must be pre-tenure in order to apply. Projects inall fields in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences areeligible.
Additional Information: During their time in the South Caucasus, applicantswill give a presentation on their research at an ARISC-sponsored event in theSouth Caucasus. As part of their final reports, ARISC JRF recipients willcreate curricular modules and resources, incorporating their ARISC-fundedresearch, for general education use that will be publicly available on thewebsite.

ARISC SHORT TERM RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP – NEW
ARISC announces the availability of fellowships in supportof research activities in the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and/orGeorgia).
The Short Term Research Fellowships (STRF) are open to U.S.citizens who are doctoral candidates or postdoctoral scholars conductingresearch in the South Caucasus. Priority will be given to projects proposingresearch on countering disinformation through programs that develop criticalthinking and media literacy skills, entrepreneurship, science and technology,and youth leadership.
Research awards will be made for $5,000 per full (30-day)month, for a maximum of 3 months total to cover transportation, lodging, andmeals and incidental expenses during the scholar’s time conducting research inthe South Caucasus. Scholars are expected to be in the South Caucasus for theduration of the project for a minimum of 30 days, and in 15-day incrementsthereafter, up to 3 months total. Stipends will be pro-rated for half-months(15 days).
Fellows are required to present a lecture or workshop duringtheir stay in the South Caucasus. ARISC encourages fellows to present theirresearch findings in cities, towns, and villages outside of the capitals inorder to engage with underserved communities.

ARISC STIPENDS FOR LECTURES AND WORKSHOPS – NEW
ARISC invites applications for U.S. scholars to conductlectures and/or workshops in the South Caucasus countries of Armenia,Azerbaijan, and Georgia. All topics in the social sciences, humanities, andrelated sciences are eligible, and a list of priority topics is included in thefull call. Proposals will be judged on the quality of their academic caliberand on the impact to the local scholarly community. Selected applicants will begiven a $250 stipend for a lecture, or $500 for an all-day workshop.Applications for in-country and virtual lectures and workshops will be acceptedfor 2021; however, priority will be given to lectures and workshops givenin-country unless travel restrictions are in place.

ARISC RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS – FINAL YEAR
ARISC announces the availability of fellowships in supportof research and mentoring activities in the South Caucasus (Armenia,Azerbaijan, and/or Georgia). The goals of the fellowship are 1) to supportresearch in and the study of the South Caucasus; 2) to select, recognize andfinancially support individuals who demonstrate high potential to contribute toresearch in this region; 3) to support a mentoring relationship that will bothdevelop the academic skills of the mentee and strengthen ties between the USand host country. Projects in all fields in the humanities, social sciences,and natural sciences are eligible, and all projects must include one or moreundergraduate and/or graduate students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and/or Georgiaas research assistants/participants. Priority will be given to projectsproposing research on entrepreneurship, science and technology, youthleadership, or higher education. This opportunity is open to US citizens whoare scholars at the predoctoral (doctoral candidates), postdoctoral, oradvanced professorial levels. Research awards will be made for a total ofbetween $2,500 and $6,500, supporting up to of three months of research to helpcover transportation, lodging, meals and incidental expenses, and otherexpenses needed to support scholar’s research in the South Caucasus.
Due date: Friday, January 8, 2021. ARISC does notexpect to solicit applications for the Research Fellowship after 2020-21.

Awards will be made for a maximum of $1500 each. Projects inall fields in the social sciences, humanities, and related sciences areeligible. The purpose of the fellowship is to help cover travel and/or livingexpenses in the South Caucasus. The ARISC Graduate/Postdoctoral Fellowship is limitedto ARISC members, who are U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, Canadiancitizens, or Canadian permanent residents.

ARISC SMALL GRANTS
ARISC announces the availability of small grants in supportof research in the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and/or Georgia) forgraduate and undergraduate students of the South Caucasus. Awards will be madefor up to $300 each. Projects in all fields in the social sciences, humanities,and related sciences are eligible. Proposals will be judged on their qualityand on the potential of the research to strengthen scholarship on the SouthCaucasus. The purpose of the grant is to help offset research costs for studentscholars in the South Caucasus. Grantees are expected to give anARISC-sponsored presentation on a subject related to their research uponcompletion of their project. The grantee will acknowledge ARISC in anypublication or presentation that emerges from the research carried out duringthe grant.
