- Abstract:
- Methods of writing in Late Bronze Age Cyprus look quite different to those of the Bronze Age Aegean, from which the Cypro-Minoan writing system was derived. But there has been a certain reluctance to see signs of 'cuneiformisation' in Cypriot writing practices in recent literature. This paper aims to show that Cypriot writers were interacting meaningfully and innovatively with cuneiform writing techniques, both in Cyprus and in Ugarit, with a reassessment particularly focused on the ways in which clay tablets were inscribed.
