- Abstract:
- On 27 January, 2012 Justices Ajit Singh and Sanjay Yadav of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur while approving the decision of the BJP government to teach “the essence of Gita” in the schools said that Gita is not merely a religious text. It is Indian philosophy. Therefore, it is not inappropriate to teach it in schools. Forces that support inequality born of the caste system and are eager to gamble on Krishna, cow and Gita, are obviously euphoric. Please note that people who have welcomed this are the same who were ranting and raving when in December 2011 a Russian court was deciding on whether to declare Gita an “extremist” text, calling it a “mockery of Hindu sentiments” and “insult to Hindu religion”.
