- Abstract:
- The Toolbox Dialogue Initiative (TDI) facilitates capacity-building workshops that are structured by a “Toolbox” instrument (Eigenbrode et al. 2007); a survey-like instrument organized into thematic modules designed to enable collaborators to articulate (O’Rourke & Crowley 2020). This instrument was designed for use with undergraduate students participating in summer research programs at Binghamton University and was adapted from the one designed by Kjellberg et al. (2018). The instrument has five modules or themes: objective, audience, inputs and outcomes, process, and identities. Each module has 5-6 prompts or statements designed to stimulate dialogue among groups of students (no more than 6-8 per dialogue group) regarding their research experiences as part of their fellowship program. The dialogue can last 80-90 minutes, dedicating 10-20 minutes per module depending on the interest of the group. Not all of the prompts will be discussed but should support discussion of the designated theme. The instrument can be administered using an online software program or pen and paper.
