    Abstract:
    On the one hand it has been suggested that the Hittites made conscious changes to the logograms used in the cuneiform script using a variety of resources. On the other hand some scholars, including myself, have continued to accept, either as a default position or with a thorough theoretical grounding, that deviations from regular “Mesopotamian” traditional scholastic texts are simply mistakes. In this contribution we will review some of the examples of such “mistakes” from the scholastic cuneiform tradition which have been mentioned in modern scholarly literature as pertinent to the debate concerning the status of scribal activity among the Hittites.
