- Abstract:
- Curatorial note from Digital Pedagogy in the Humanities: In an example of having students contribute to an existing resource, Adeline Koh used Wikipedia, the open-source encyclopedia, as a platform for her students to create and curate entries for her feminist theory class. By challenging her students to do their work via editing Wikipedia articles, Koh forces them to confront questions about knowledge, power, authority, and standards. Wikipedia, on an informational page, in turn cautions faculty that simply turning students loose to edit entries may do no good for the students and no good for Wikipedia. In this case, students are learning by adding their work to an open, crowdsourced encyclopedia, contributing new material in a small, manageable, and yet meaningful way.
