    Abstract:
    Curatorial note from Digital Pedagogy in the Humanities: This assignment for a course which functions as an introduction to the writing major draws students’ attention to issues of digital divides through service work in partnership with Austin Free-Net, a nonprofit that aims for digital inclusion throughout the city. Students write instructions and film videos for the Austin Free-Net (AFN) YouTube channel to help community members better access technology. For example, one student-created video teaches users how to download the Cap Metro app used for accessing public transit. This artifact offers a structured assignment, complete with a rubric, for a longer class team assignment. It demonstrates how student use of writing and technology can help make technology more accessible to the larger community. It also makes students more critically aware of their own digital literacy skills and allows them space to reflect on how sponsors have helped them accumulate such literacy.
