    Abstract:
    Loyalist Migrations is a spatial history project in its early stages. It visualizes the movement of exiles and refugees who fled the United States in the aftermath of the American Revolution. The project is a partnership between the Huron University College’s Community History Centre, the Map and Data Centre at Western, and the United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada (UELAC). This is an exercise in collaborative public history research, in which our initial dataset comes from the Loyalist Directory, a collection of genealogical research carried out by loyalist descendants. In this paper, we discuss our initial goals, our experiences working in collaboration, and the challenges of visualizing human migrations after more than two centuries. By plotting these individual journeys, we hope to demonstrate the scope and diversity of the migrations for public audiences and, in the years to come, provide new research and analysis.
