- Abstract:
- The paper analyses the scope of changes in the urban fabric of Damascus from the late 15th through the 16th century. It takes recourse to Lefebvre's theory of space and thereby tries to explain which role of architecture (among other modes) served as a tool of legitimation and marker of power which was used both by the Mamluks and Ottomans as well as local status groups.
