    Abstract:
    So far, the GDR history education (Geschichtsdidaktik) has largely been understood as an established system or even perceived from the perspective of its "liquidation". Almost exclusively text hermeneutic methods were used. The present study uses alternative approaches in terms of content and methodology. It examines the roots and the beginning of the discipline as well as the long process of its conceptual, institutional and personal constitution. The spectrum of research methods will be extended to include social and cultural science methods. In its early years, the GDR history education as established at universities proved to be far more diverse, conflict-laden and innovative than had previously been assumed. ------- Bislang wurde die DDR-Geschichtsmethodik weitgehend als etabliertes System begriffen oder gar aus der Perspektive ihrer "Abwicklung" wahrgenommen. Dabei kamen fast ausschliesslich texthermeneutische Verfahren zur Anwendung. Die vorliegende Studie setzt in inhaltlicher und methodischer Hinsicht alternativ an. Sie untersucht die Wurzeln und den Anfang der Disziplin sowie den langen Prozess ihrer konzeptuellen, institutionellen und personellen Konstituierung. Das Spektrum der Untersuchungsmethoden wird um sozial- und kulturwissenschaftliche Verfahren erweitert. Die DDR-Geschichtsmethodik erweist sich dabei in ihren ersten Jahren als weitaus vielgestaltiger, konfliktreicher und auch innovativer, als bislang angenommen wurde.
