- Abstract:
- The section «Grundlagenerschliessung» of the Swiss Society for History carried out in 2002 and 2007 a nation-wide survey of ongoing historical edition projects, which was updated in 2014 in the form of an online survey (http://www.infoclio.ch/de/edition-projects). The comparison of the three surveys shows that in 2014 the editing work has shifted from the universities to the archives and the independent institutions and that about half of the editors work alone. Most charters and documents of a region will be edited in full text. The focus in the editing activity of Switzerland lies in the three surveys in the (Late) Middle Ages and Early Modern period. It is mainly digitally edited, currently only 32.5 percent of the current historical Edition Projects are classic book editions. Swiss editions contain mainly indexes of places and persons; after all, about half of them have an object index, and around a third a glossary. The cantons are the leading supporters of editorial projects, followed by the federal government (SNF/SAHS) with 20 percent and by Foundations / Associations with 18 percent.
