    Abstract:
An appendix to my MA thesis, 'Satisfied with a Knowledge of the Totals: Labouring to Build the Claudian Aqueducts', Reading, 1998. In this appendix, I tried to match Ashby's descriptions of the remains of the aqueducts with Van Deman's descriptions. From these descriptions, I crafted a volumetric model of the quantities of materials used in the construction of the Aqua Claudia and the Aqua Anio Novus, using J. DeLaine's figures for quantity surveying Roman construction. The first number is the page number in Ashby; the second is the corresponding description in Van Deman; the third is, as I recall, in the work of the surveyors of Rome from the late 19th century, 'Livelli degli acquedotti'. That latter work I have ever only found in the library of the British School at Rome. Someone might find this information useful.
