- Abstract:
- This paper suggests that Margaret Cavendish, rather than suffering as an exile in Antwerp during the Interregnum, was fortunate to circulate in high-level cultural and intellectual circles. She included references to the art and architecture of Antwerp in her fiction, especially narratives found in Nature's Pictures, 1656. Along the way, she critiqued the narrowly observation-based method espoused by Boyle, Hook, and others of the Royal Society.
